Springfield Baptist Church
Everyone loves a celebration. On Saturday, June 11, our church took an active role in the Springfield Community Fun Day. Our display featured information about our VBS program, "Bug Safari" that will be offered to children on August 1 – 5. Announcements about our "Super Summer Sunday School starting June 26 were also available. Those children who came to the fair were able to create their own bug and pre-enrol for VBS. The glory of the Father and Son shone throughout the day even when the sun didn't.
Entering the Lord's sanctuary on Sunday, June 12, the congregation was greeted by Tom and Karen Graydon. Those in attendance were called to worship with the reading of Psalm 95: 1-7 followed by the singing of "Come, Thou Almighty King" led by Pastor, Jo-Anne and Sarah Twinem. Additional songs of praise included "Be Unto Thy Name", "Soldiers of Christ, Arise" and a special ministry in song provided by Joanna Fuller, Stephanie Kinsey and Sarah Twinem singing "How Great Thou Art".
After the reading of Daniel 3, Pastor Rockwell introduced his message "I Know Who Holds My Hand" based on this bible passage. We all like stories and God's word is full of stories such as the one told in Daniel 3. Stories draw us to them because they communicate truth. Scriptures relate God's truth. This particular story was circulated among the Jews in captivity to encourage them.
This scripture reveals a drama in real life. Shadrack, Meshach and Abednego are put on the spot when King Nebuchadnezzar elevates himself to the position of a god. Nebuchadnezzar, convinced of his importance, makes demands on these three men that they could not follow. They were given two chances to obey and when they refused the king asked them "what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?" (Dan. 3:15) This comment was echoed at the end of the story.
Nebuchadnezzar gave Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego an ultimatum; follow his orders or follow God. These three men didn't need to defend themselves but were willing to talk. Their theological knowledge let them know that God was able to save them. Did they have prophetic knowledge that let them know that God would rescue them? Because of their close walk with God, they had the covenant certainty that God would protect them. These men showed their complete faith and trust in God. (Dan. 3:18)
Nebuchadnezzar, totally out of control, had them thrown into a furnace. The fire, however, did no damage showing God's divine intervention for His divine purpose. Seeing this the king praised God and decreed that no man could speak evil about Him. Like this king we must realize that only our sovereign God holds the hand of all believers and is the only one who can save us.
Shadrach Meshach And Abednego - News
Just walking around downtown at this time of year puts me in mind of another biblical reference—the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, the boys committed to the fiery furnace by King Nebuchadnezzar because they would not bow down to his

They also remind me of how the Lord is with us through every fiery furnace (ala Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego) and lions' den (remember Daniel?) or prison (think of Paul and Silas). Like our Bible friends, God may bring us out of that furnace without
Shadrach, Meshach & Abednego « kendall
I had the privilege of teaching a couple of days during VBS; one of my assignments was to teach from Daniel 3, which is the story of Nebuchadnezzar’s Golden Image, the Fiery Furnace and the Faith of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
There were many things that struck me about this familiar text. One very simple thing that came to my mind about this story is that it is a true story . (Matthew 4:4)
These stories are life-giving because they teach us about the life-giver. They teach us about the nature and character of God.
These stories are true and the primary truth to which they testify is the reality of the person and work of Christ.
These stories are meant to shape your story. The stories tell you who you are, because they tell you who God is.
Listen to the response of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego:
“O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”
How did they know God was able to deliver them from the Fiery Furnace? Because the story of the Exodus and all of Godʼs dealings with his people shaped their own view of life. They had allowed Revelation (Scripture) to trump everything else, to shape their decisions and responses. Long before Nebuchadnezzar made his ridiculous decree, the Word of God had already carved out the path in which Shadrach, Meshach andAbednego walked. Their stories (interpretation of life) were shaped by the story of the one who ultimately did rescue them from the Fiery Furnace, the Lord Jesus Christ.
