Bubbling Brooke

Three decades have come between Brooke Shields and her Calvins — and no one’s more aware of that than she is.

“I bought beer for the crew after rehearsal last night, and everyone’s like, ‘I can’t believe you did that,’ ” says Shields, who steps into Morticia’s shroud in “The Addams Family” on Tuesday.

“I told them, ‘Come on, we’re finished, it’s Sunday — the only tragedy in this is I used to get carded!”

Granted, when the 46-year-old pops into a bodega for booze these days, she doesn’t look under 21 anymore. While time hasn’t thinned those famous eyebrows or diminished the dimples of the erstwhile “Pretty Baby,” there’s a touch of gray at her temples.

Still, as she waves the “Remove before wearing” tag she’s just ripped off her new pants, she radiates a kind of girl-next-store innocence. No wonder everyone was shocked when she swore at the Tonys. She says now that it was deliberate.

After flubbing some lines at the top of the telecast, she texted her husband, producer/writer Chris Henchy, who was in LA with their daughters: “OMG, I just had a train wreck on the Tonys!”

Knowing she’d be onstage again later, he told her to “get bleeped” to divert everyone from her earlier disaster.

“And it worked!” she says, happily.

Flubs aside, she’s glad to be back on Broadway, even as she struggles with her weighty Morticia Addams gown, which she’s ripped three times in fits of errant choreography.

“Bebe [Neuwirth]’s been great,” Shields says of her predecessor, who’s given her tips. “Those are tough shoes to fill, but they’re probably the only thing of Bebe’s I could fit in. I’m definitely a larger Morticia.”

The willowy 6-footer rides to rehearsals on a Vespa, piloted by her assistant. It seems a fun way to get around New York, her hometown.

“I get a little beaten down when I’m in Hollywood,” Shields confesses. “I love LA, but you’re never young enough, thin enough . . . I’m better off in a town where the focus isn’t on how you look.”

As she told the graduating class last month at Princeton, her alma mater: “My education enabled me to survive this industry — one that predicates itself on eating its young.

Shields also endorsed Breck shampoo, Colgate toothpaste, and Band Aids. Shields starred in a string of TV-movies following college, before landing the title role in Suddenly Susan in 1996. With a great time slot between Seinfeld and ER, the show achieved moderate success and was later moved to Monday nights, where it began to struggle in the ratings. It was eventually canceled in late 1999. Shields' career remained on track, however, with starring roles in several independent films, including James Toback's Black and White (2000), co-starring Robert Downey Jr. In 2007, she appeared as Miley Cyrus's mother on the hit Disney show, Hannah Montana.
