As part of the Centennial anniversary celebration of the California Art Club ( http://www.californiaartclub.org ), the organization is returning to its birthplace and partnering with the Fremont Gallery ( http://www.fremontgallery.com ) in South Pasadena to present an exhibition of landscape paintings of the Golden State from July 2 to 31, 2011. "Fresh Air: Landscapes of California" will be unveiled with a reception with the artists on July 2 from 6 to 9 p.m.
The display of nearly 70 paintings will pay tribute to the state’s stunning and varied natural resources with works created by more than 50 Associate Artist Members of the Club. The featured works depict pristine sites ranging from the vineyard-lined roads of Sonoma Valley and the rugged cliffs of the Central Coast to the alleys of Venice and the flower fields in bloom at Carlsbad.
"Fresh Air: Landscapes of California" is one of the many Club exhibitions that have been on view following the publication of the deluxe book "California Light: A Century of Landscapes – Paintings of the California Art Club." The 276-page book from Skira Rizzoli features more than 300 lush landscapes painted during the last 100 years by artist members of the organization and documents the Club's history, from its founding in an artist's studio in South Pasadena to its current activities that involve six chapters throughout the state.
“With the recent publication of 'California Light,' we wanted to present exhibitions, such as "Fresh Air: Landscapes of California," which would provide art enthusiasts and California history lovers with opportunities to view a diverse selection of landscape paintings created using the Impressionistic style of painting featured in the book,” said Elaine Adams, the Club’s executive director.
“This style of painting, known as California Impressionism, was inspired by our founding artists and perfected by Club artists who followed in their footsteps in the quest to capture fleeting moments of natural lighting across scenic vistas throughout the state,” explained Adams.

When I saw the color combination, I instantly thought about a recent trip I took to the Flower Fields in Carlsbad, California. Like most Carlsbad tourists, I was there to see Legoland. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time because I stumbled on to this incredible ranunculus farm. You can't imagine the joy it gives you to see acre upon acre of these beautiful flowers in every color of the rainbow. My favorites...the purple, pink & orange. For my take on the challenge I used the Stampendous Ranunculus Field stamp R112 (Go figure). I colored the stamp this time with Memento Dual Tip Markers in Rose Bud, Lilac Posies, Tangelo, Bamboo Leaves & New Sprout. After a spritz of Ranger Perfect Pearls Mist, I stamped the image on Aquarelle Arches Hot Pressed Watercolor paper. I trimmed the image and mounted it to a purple card stock and then a blue card base. The ribbon is a white Creative Impressions silk ribbon that I easily colored with my V17 Copic marker. Thanks to a little strategically placed adhesive, I twisted & looped the ribbon and finished the card with a pearlized brad from TPC Studio. It's a pretty simple design but I really think this gorgeous Stampendous image needs very little embellishment.
