Alexander McQueen "Savages" Van Gogh Record at the Met, Courtney Love Splits ...

Can't-Miss Meets Can't-See: The Met 's Alexander McQueen show continues to live up to its name, "Savage Beauty," by brutally clawing its way into the museum's record books, with Bloomberg reporting that it has now attracted more than 354,684 people since opening in May — already outpacing the extremely popular 2005 exhibition of van Gogh 's drawings. The problem, of course, is the two-hour-plus lines. Just imagine how many more people would see the show if they could actually get in? [ Bloomberg ]

Back Into the Arms of Anselm Kiefer ?: It was a fairy-tale romance for an age of revisionist fairy tales, but now it seems that, ahem, unpredictable rocker Courtney Love has split up with Henry Allsopp , the blue-blooded who oversaw last night's Phillips de Pury London sale as the house's senior contemporary specialist , and whom Love moved in with last November. According to gleeful Fleet Street reports, the troubled musician's dreams of becoming "Lady Love" were dashed when Allsopp's aristocratic family intervened to force them apart, and now the specialist has found a new squeeze already. Who knows if any of this is true, but find more sordid details here. [ Daily Express ]

Google Meet Getty: After launching its Google Art Project earlier this year, the search giant continues to make inroads into the museum world. Now, the Getty Museum has teamed up with the company's smart phone app Google Goggles to create a searchable database of about 300 of its paintings. Just point your phone at a painting at the L.A. museum and it will automatically call up web data related to the work, starting with specially prepared text from the museum. It's like reading a wall label, only powered by Android. "We always had the museum use-case in mind," the Google Goggles project manager told the L.A. Times, "and because the engineering team is here in Los Angeles, we wanted to do it with an L.A. institution.

Traditional Handmade Irish Wedding Rings - DisaboomLive

For more than four thousand years ago, Irish metalsmiths have been creating Irish wedding rings in gold and silver and other precious metals.  Decorative Irish wedding ring  examples date from the Bronze Age, some four thousand years ago.  Many of these jewelry pieces were functional in nature and formed decorative features to everyday items such as clothes brooches and fasteners, weapons and eating and cooking utensils.  Celtic metalwork formed the basis of much of the artwork from this period. Up to 400 tonnes of copper was mined in the southwest of Ireland, in County Kerry and Cork then alloyed with tin brought over from Cornwall in England. Many irish wedding ring items were exported to the Continent from Ireland during this period. As well as copper, Irish craftsmen developed Irish jewelry items in gold. Many examples of irish wedding rings, earrings, necklaces can be found in the National museum of Ireland.Ireland was a relatively rich source of Gold ore which created a cottage industry in Celtic wedding ring production. This is evidenced not only by the considerable number of gold ornaments and artifacts, dating back to the Bronze Age, which have been unearthed in Ireland, but also by the variety of Irish wedding ring items have been discovered throughout Europe. At first, this gold Irish wedding ring production comprised mainly simple shapes (like crescents) as well as disks of gold sheet. Later, Irish goldsmiths introduced the more intricate Celtic knotwork and celtic spirals to irish wedding rings. In addition to gold torques, Bronze Age workers in Ireland produced a range of earrings and other gold celtic wedding ring jewelery. Examples include the great Lunala relics, bracelets, ear ornaments and clasps, balls and Torcs. Pottery was also made, but Bronze age earthenware was Beaker ware - a European style of pottery quite unlike the round-bottom type artifacts of the Neolithic period.Visit The Wedding Band Shop to view a large selection of irish wedding rings.
