Grab a Fork, Pie Season Is Here

As we gear up for the Fourth of July celebrations, it's good idea to identify yoru pie options in Shorewood -- where you can enjoy pie, pick up a whole pie, or order up a special favorite.

There are many pie connoisseurs in Wisconsin, like " The Pie Dude " who blogs about pie and offers his most recent favorites about town (and the nation). Here in Shorewood, there are many pie opportunities -- by the slice and whole pies.

Get familiar with the options for pie by the slice

Alterra offers their berry cherry pie by the slice which is easy to overlook in the case but is a satisfying and tasty treat, almost a meal. The perk of partaking in pie at this local coffee shop is you can pair it with a dizzying array of coffee or tea, iced or hot.

Baker’s Square is a neighborhood fixture with views of sporty bikers hopping on and off the bike trail. It offers free pie (with entree) on Wednesdays. It also carries many pies that may be enjoyed with coffee in a corner booth. The coffee is plentiful, and here, you can relax and settle in for a conversation.

City Market is a nice place to bring a group -- of out of towners, intergenerational folks, or kids fresh off the playground -- everyone can find something they like here. The clear pie favorite amongst the group of 10 I brought for pie, was the banana cream.

Slice and dice: If you bring a group, one way to share more without overwhelming folks is to pay a small fee to have pie sliced in two and plated separately. It's a nice idea if there are children, as each slice is too big for them to finish (generally). Also, as a heads up, there is no table service here, though coffee refills are included, it is self-serve. Diners will need to fetch forks, napkins, water (with lemon wedges, a nice touch) and other items from the station just to your the left of the counter.

Harry's known for its bar and dinner options, but does offer a stunning array of desserts which are presented in grand style on a tray together. There is often a tasty berry or custard pie as an option amongst much more indulgent desserts.

Baker’s Square , the longtime Shorewood restaurant, offers considerable variety of pies available without notice for pickup, in both the berry and custard genres. They still carry French silk pie, and have the largest selection of pies ready to go in Shorewood. If you really do have to pick up a pie to bring to an event (or home), they have made it easy to schedule it and select the type of pie. In fact, it now offers online pie reservations , with over 26 types of pie to choose from, and you can specify the date and time of your preferred pickup.
