Needed- an opinion - PCMech Forums

I lost pwr to my PC one day, checked the pwr. supply it was good then went to the MB. changed from MCI 31TM-P21 with a Pen. D processor. to a Endura EM 945G with Pen. R. because it was the closest thing available to get me back up as I was on a deadline for a Nursing class. Question, did i hurt my self with this board or do I need to replace with a original MCI board. Don't know enough to make a educated guess, so I though someone here would be smart enough to let me know? I appreciate any input and all opinions. Both boards have two memory slots and can handle the 4Gb of DDR that is installed. thanks for your time into this inquiry. I assume the "MCI" is an MSI G31 board. I think the G31 is the better chipset and gives you greater CPU flexibility. I assume the CPU Pen. R is a regular Pentium 4 CPU. Now that chipset only supports one Pentuim D which is the D915 Presler which is a very capable CPU. In my opinion (if I am reading your post correctly) you downgraded with not only an inferior board from a manufacturing (RadiSys vs MSI) and chipset standpoint, you also slighted yourself on the CPU as well. Additionally, depending if I guessed correctly on your CPU, the 945g Chipset does have full support for the Pentium D series. Furthermore, those boards support DDR2 memory as the MSI can use up to 8GB and the RadiSys Endura can use up to 4GB. Thanks, yes you interpreted my post correctly. So if I understand your reply I actually went backward with this MB, which means I'll order myself another MCI G 31 Mb and hopefully I can replace it my self by using my old board as a guide for any jumpers etc. Thanks for your time and the info, it was exactly what I was looking for. On last thing, I shoould be able to use the processor from the old MB on the the one I order correct an once I have it installed then install the driver disk. Anything else that I might need to know. The reason I would like to do it my self is for the experience, not to mention the shop would charge a $100 to change out the board. Thanks, yes you interpreted my post correctly.
