Report: Aaron Douglas had multiple drugs in his body

Autopsy results released by a Florida medical examiner say former Maryville High and University of Tennessee standout football player Aaron Douglas had multiple drugs in his body when he died May 12 in Fernandina Beach, Fla.

WVLT-TV, citing the medical report, reported Monday night that several drugs, including methadone and diazepam, were in Douglas’ system.

Douglas, 21, a former freshman All-American offensive tackle with the Vols in 2009, transferred from UT after the coaching change from Lane Kiffin to Derek Dooley before his sophomore season.

He played one season at Arizona Western College, then signed with SEC rival Alabama, where he just had finished spring practice, leaving the camp as a candidate for playing time this fall with the Crimson Tide.

Diazepam is an anti anxiety medication and methadone is a very strong painkiller. I believe it is used for people with an opioid dependency so he could have had a prescription for this.

There are a lot of deaths related to methadone each year and a lot of them have to do with mixing with benzos. Diazepam is a benzo.

It's always sad to see a young life taken whether intentional or accidental. He may have had a prescription.....And I did not catch where it indicated the levels he had (maybe I missed that).

When I read this it reminded me of a young high school student here that took his life by taking too many 3C's. If you are wondering about the slang word (3C's)....It's simply the Coricidin HBP Cough and Cold....Readily available for anyone over the counter (without an age requirement). I only say this because the parents of this young man had no clue, sign, or indication that he had taken anything.....Until they walked in and found him. So many cases like this are heartbreaking for the families....And taken so hard.
