Abilene alumnus awarded honorary degree

Ken D. Parr, who attended Abilene High School in 1947 and 1948, recently was awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters degree by the University of Houston. His instruction at AHS included two years of machine shop instructed by George Kearwer.

Parr worked for Mrs Baird's Bakery from 1948 to 1950, then moved to Fort Worth. As an inventor and entrepreneur, Parr worked on the U.S. space program and in other fields. He an his wife, Corine, now live in Richmond.

Ashley Herron, the 2007 Jim Ned High School valedictorian, recently graduated from Rice University. She is pursuing a doctorate.

Two area residents recently graduated from South Texas College of Law in Houston.

Laura Noel Millican of Abilene received a doctorate of jurisprudence degree. She is a 2000 graduate of Cooper High School. Her parents are Larry and Joan Millican of Abilene.

Robbye Delle Bryan of Ballinger received a doctorate of jurisprudence degree. She is a 2003 graduate of Ballinger High School. Her parents are Debra Rinn and Robby Bryan of Ballinger.

Candi Huster* is a woman who has worked at the Mrs. Baird’s factory in Fort Worth for over ten years and a family friend of mine for 24 years.  I say Mrs. Baird’s factory opposed to a bakery because as of two years ago the Mrs. Baird’s company was purchased by the Bimbo Corporation out of Mexico, shortly after the anonymous TRILLIONS were being passed out to mega corporations via TARP and Obama’s stimulus package, this is when Mrs. Baird’s bakery became a factory.

Ms. Huster stated, “All of the years I have worked for Mrs. Baird’s we used real ingredients and baked fresh bread with real wheat and flour and yeast. Not any more though.  Since Bimbo bought the company, we switched to using bags of pre-packaged ingredients with warning labels like DO NOT INGEST OR INHALE. And we are putting this stuff into giant dough kneaders and into all Mrs. Baird’s products.  One bag is about the size of a 20 pound bag of flour and inside is a  fluorescent blue powder and clearly says TOXIC DO NOT INGEST. And now we have to wear surgical type masks when mixing  dough.”

The bread is no longer shipped out fresh everyday and the shelf life greatly extended.  No longer are wholesome ingredients the cornerstone of one of the most popular bread brands in the country. With highly toxic ingredients and preservatives, the extra costs of higher quality bread seem minimal.  Some companies Bimbo have acquired, presumably with stolen taxpayer money include: Tia Rosa, Mission brand and Mrs. Baird’s.

You gonna wind up with something a hundred dollar mojo hand wont fix….FOOL!!
