Shooting of Asterix: God save Britain begins in Malta

The filming of Asterix: God save Britain 3D, a new adaptation of the famous René Goscinny script and Albert Uderzo, directed by Laurent Tirard, with, as in the previous titles, Gérard Depardieu in the role of Obelix, has commenced.

In addition, Edouard Baer plays Asterix who crosses the Channel with Obelix to save a family from the Roman yoke.

The series, based on the comic book Asterix in Britain and Asterix and the Normans, will also feature the actress Catherine Deneuve.

The shooting of the film, which has begun in Malta, will continue in Budapest from 20 July to conclude on the Irish coast in late September. This is a European co-production between institutions in France, Spain, Italy and Hungary.

In 1999, Asterix and Obelix against Caesar (directed by Claude Zidi), was the first installment in the saga of Gérard Depardieu. The French actor has also participated in the sequels Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002) and Asterix at the Olympic Games (2008).

Pathe Distribution Limited have announced the UK Region 2 DVD release of Asterix at the Olympic Games on 25th August 2008 priced at £15.99. This live-action Asterix adventure stars Clovis Cornillac as the diminutive Gaul (though he doesn’t look all that small in this live-action adventure) and Gerard Depardieu as Obelix. Together they travel to Greece to win the Olympic Games, all in aid of young Gaul Alafolix (Stephane Rousseau) who is trying to win the heart of the Greek Princess Irina. According to the BBFC, it contains "infrequent use of mild language ('bullshit' and 'crap') and infrequent mild sex references: to a eunuch and the comic kissing of a football by a character who asks 'Am I turning you on?'"Wow!  :eek: Asterix has vertainly changed since I was a kid.  It's been passed in its original French language, which is nice.
